Some animals have markings to conceal their individuality. It makes it harder for predators to single out one for the kill because they cannot tell where one animal begins or the other ends. Fitting in, not standing out is what provides protection. I'd like to think my herd members each have a bit of individuality, but some are bolder than others. Who will get eaten?
